Prompt by Anthony @ Reading Forward: Winter Wonderland – It’s a Snow Day! Now what?

So a Snow Day is a day on which you don’t have to go to school or work because it’s snowing too much, right? I think my country just doesn’t get cold enough for this, but it sounds wonderful to dream about. What would I do with such a day?

I would wake up to a message that the Dutch trains aren’t running (not so unimaginable, somehow) and I thus don’t have to go to my internship. I sigh a happy sigh and roll over for a few more hours of sleep. (On internship days my alarm rings at a horrible 6 o’clock.)

After waking up from natural light filtering through the blinds, I put on my warm dressing gown and walk into the living room to admire the view. It would probably look something like this*:

This picture was taken last year, we haven’t had any snow this year yet. *Also, this is in Brussels, we have since moved to NL.

Then it’s time for a lazy breakfast, an episode of One Day at A Time and a steaming cup of tea. I’ll get dressed in one of my favourite cosy jumpers, put on my sturdy boots and go outside for a snowy walk through my neighbourhood. Everything looks so much more magical in the snow!

When I get cold I’ll head inside and cuddle up on the couch with a cup of coffee and the book I’m reading at that moment. If I’m reading something good, this will take up a significant amount of the rest of the day. If I’m not I should probably swap it for something better: it would be a shame to waste a snowy day…

After reading I might bake something sweet, cut nice pictures out of magazines or write a blog post. Alternatively, I will do a bit of studying so I don’t get too far behind. (Sadly, this sounds more realistic.)

In the evening my boyfriend and I would cook something winter-y, like roast veg (with lots of feta <3) or tomato-butterbean soup, and then maybe watch a movie.

I’ll end the day with some more reading and will go to bed early but very happy. I hope it snows again tomorrow!
