Owning several copies of Pride and Prejudice is a tradition in my family. My grandfather reads P&P for Christmas every year, which brings him to a grand total of 58 re-reads. I believe that most years he buys a pretty edition to match, so he has more than a shelf of them now. My having only three is nothing in comparison. They’re all Penguin editions, funnily enough. I bought my first copy (the green one) at the American Book Center in Amsterdam when I was 15. I remember being very proud of the “student discount” I received. Then there is the copy my granddad ripped apart because he only wanted the introduction for his scrapbook (it was a cheap second hand copy) and I had a go at binding together again. Lastly, I bought the orange Penguin English Library one when I was on exchange in England and hadn’t brought another copy. Why I thought I could miss P&P for a year is still a riddle to me ;).
Idea: maybe I should start collecting Penguin editions of Pride and Prejudice! Hmm. Or maybe not.
‘The Weather Today’ is a challenge I set myself in which every day(ish) I will take a random book from my bookshelves and write a few sentences about it.
