I‘m writing from my father’s house so I have no acces to my bookshelves today. Instead here is a lovely new addition to my collection that I bought yesterday. My friends Lisette, Anne (Books, Baking and Blogging), and me travelled to Amsterdam to visit the Rijksmuseum, the biggest museum of the Netherlands with a large collection of art and history. It was absolutely beautiful! After having spent quite a few hours there we felt a bit overwhelmed by the large amount of paintings we had seen (not to mention a bit demotivated from having only covered half of the ground floor and most of the second floor), so we decided it was time to go for a late lunch and a visit to a bookstore.
We had a nice browse through the American Book Center, and I bought this book that has been on my TBR for a while. (I also made a last minute buy of The Architect’s Apprentice by Elif Shafak, because it was on sale. I knew limiting myself to one book would be hard.) I Capture the Castle is the diary of Cassandra Mortmain, who makes witty remarks on her lovely, eccentric, dysfunctional, and penniless family. It also tells the story of how she falls in love for the first time. I’m only about 20 pages in, but so far it’s a very warm and enjoyable read.
‘The Weather Today’ is a challenge I set myself in which every day(ish) I will take a random book from my bookshelves and write a few sentences about it.
Amsterdam is lovely. All the museum especially. Saw the film I Capture the Castle. Fantastic story so no doubts book is delightful.

Yes, I saw the film as well and that (as well as some great reviews) made me want to read the book. It’s such a sweet story and Romola Garai is so great in it.
Somehow I ended up seeing it closely followed by Glorious 39 and because some of the cast overlap, the movies occasionally blend together in my head a bit. That makes for a strange story, I can tell you :P.
